Timeline

  • End of 6th century BCE: Building constructed
  • Late 3rd/early 2nd century BCE: Regia rebuilt (slight expansion)
  • 148 BCE: A fire burns part of the Regia, which is presumably rebuilt (no remains)
  • 36 BCE: Regia rebuilt (presumably necessitated by the Aedes Divi Iuli)

Physical evidence

  • A small trapezoidal building of marble and travertine
  • A modification of structures from the Regal period
  • East end of the Forum Romanum by the Aedes Divi Iuli
  • Exact function unclear
  • Both older version and rebuilt version had 3 rooms with a triangular courtyard, with access on the east end
  • Room on the west side is the largest and has a hearth
  • Altar in the open courtyard
  • Over time, porticos added to the courtyard
